We made it through camp and had so much fun!!!
Our Stake Young Women Presidency and Camp Director
Peche' (1st counsellor), Sharyl (2nd counsellor), Sandi (camp director), Kristin (secretary) and me (president)
We had so much fun together, even during the stressful times. Lots of laughter and joking around, we had a blast. The camp was beautiful. There were air conditioned cabins, a beautiful screened in pavilion with a professional kitchen. There was a walk in freezer, an upright freezer, a commercial fridge, triple sinks, stainless steel countertops running the lenth of the room, and endless storage for our food. You get the idea! We even had a camp cook, her name is Jennifer and she is so wonderful to work with.
Our Youth Camp Leaders (ages 16 - 18) chose the theme for camp. "Never Fear for He is Here" The Stake leaders and YCL's all had super capes. We were super leaders, and the level girls all had a superhero from the scriptures. Ruth, Hannah, Esther and Mary.
These are our "super" YCL's, there were 26 of them! They got to stay in 2 cabins all by themselves.
This is the "purple plunger man" and his sidekick Chuck. They were incredible, they were constantly working, and helping us out with everything! When they were finished with a job, they would ask us, "What would you like us to do now?" The purple plunger man has a purple plunger with purple curly ribbon hanging from the handle. He carries a purple toilet on wheels with a purple cape (the toilet). In the morning at the flag ceremony, he announces the winner of the cleanest bathroom. The level (1, 2, 3 or 4) gets a large bag of candy and they get sung to in toilet language......To Dream the Impossible Dream, with toilet works and cleanliness words substituting the real ones. Each award comes with a different song!!
This is our camp photo of the best girls and leaders ever!
One memorable story was, the four of us (minus Kristin) spent Monday night at camp before the girls arrived. We crept down by the waterfront........Not too close, but close enough. We crawled on top of a picnic table and shined our flashlights onto the water's edge. There was a little area of lily pads and there was a little red glow that moved slightly when we shined the flashlight on it........We just knew it was an alligator! The next night after everyone had gone to bed, the same thing. The next morning one of the leaders was by the waterfront using her cell phone (it was the only place where there was cell reception), she saw a little 3 foot alligator!!!!!
I still went swimming. I was so proud of myself for being so brave. Maybe it was just my survival instincts to cool off, because it was so hot and humid.......
Thank goodness I never really saw him, only the glow of his red eye at night..........

Sounds like a lot of fun! Glad you didn't see any gators...in daylight :)
Hello, I'm in the Star Crazy Group put together by Nedra. I was browsing the group's blogs and yours caught my attention. I too survived Girl's Camp in Utah. We do tents, latrines, and dutch oven cooking over a fire. You have alligators; we have bears.
Happy quilting and happy days with the youth in Fl.
