Candy Making

Rebecca, Lindsay and I got together to make some candy for gifts, and to have for the holidays. It took us hours. Each of us chose a treat and we made a triple batch of each.

I made chocolate covered cherries. First time ever. I learned not to make a triple batch of the white stuff that surrounds the cherry. I really only needed one and a half batches. I also learned not to put them on a cooling rack, just on parchment paper. I also learned that when you add butter to chocolate, it turns stiff, sort of like icing. When you add shortening, it becomes more runny. Mental note to self......if I can remember my mental note!

Rebecca made peanut butter cups, one of my favorites. She bought beautiful gold foil cups for them to nestle in.

Lindsay made English toffee smothered in Symphony milk chocolate, and coated with pecans. Dave is a good pecan crusher by the way. So is Jeremy. And also Bridger. It seemed like the guys liked using the chopper. Sort of a guy machine in a way....

Here we are, after hours of candy making in the kitchen. We divided up our goodies and will be able to make lots of other people happy.

I used to make candy with my mom every year at Christmas. It is a wonderful memory for me. When she passed away I would make it for my dad because he missed it. Now I don't make it at all. I should start again. Loved seeing your fun time.
