Ricky and I went to St. Augustine (an hour and a half drive) last week for a conference. The minute Ricky went to his first meeting, I hopped in the car with "George" my new best friend. Just kidding, George is my GPS. He has guided me to Seminary every morning at 6:15 for about 3 weeks and then to the high school to pick up Sean before I could get there without his help. I depend on him a lot!
I knew there was a quilt shop in St. Augustine, it is called Margrieta's Quilt Shop in the historic section. I had to park down the block a bit, and across the street.
The minute I walked into the shop, a huge smile spread across my face. A store with bright colored fabrics, not just the dull country shades. It still isn't as good as Material Girls, but I liked it a lot.
Of course there is a room full of batik fabric. That seems to be really popular here.

There were pretty quilts on the wall.

These fabric pictures were done with little pieces of fabric glued on canvas. Magrieta is expanding her shop into this room. She moved here 20 years ago from Capetown, South Africa. She said that if Mabulane gets homesick, to bring her to the shop and they can talk. She was so nice. So Bingo! I found a nice quilt shop. The one in Jacksonville is great too, but it is almost a 2 hour drive!

Forgot to mention that when I was ready to leave the shop, there was the biggest downpour ever. I didn't have an umbrella with me. I waited about 10 minutes and there was no letting up. I just went for it......I took my sandals off and ran through the deep puddles. I was pretty soaked when I got to the car, but still happy! I was going to take a picture of the shop on the outside but of course there was too much rain. Ricky stopped the car on our way back into town and I got a shot from the car.

That looks like fun! That's funny that the owner is from s.a. too--it's a small world sometimes.
I am very happy to know that you found a wonderful shop and it sounds like a very interesting shop owner. I know what it means to you.
Yesterday I went across the street to show a tell some quilting with a gal in our ward yesterday. Come to find out we love the same styles, the same colors, the same patterns and we are both contempory quilters. We screamed the whole time, we were both so excited.
Make sure you don't sneek back to South Jordan without getting with me.
